Slow Wi-Fi costs more than patience. Every frozen card terminal, dropped call and stalled upload adds up. Here are the signs it's time for a proper business network.
- 1. Dead zones. If certain rooms, the back office or the shop floor always struggle, one router can't cover your space. Business access points placed properly fix this for good.
- 2. Things slow down when people arrive. Consumer routers struggle with lots of devices. Business-grade equipment is built for dozens or hundreds of connections.
- 3. Customers share your business network. Guests should be on their own separate network, isolated from your computers, POS and cameras.
- 4. You're relying on the internet provider's router. It's fine for a home, but it usually lacks proper security controls, monitoring and coverage for a business.
- 5. Nobody knows the Wi-Fi password — or everyone does. If the password hasn't changed in years and former staff still know it, it's time.
What an upgrade looks like
For most small businesses: a proper firewall, one or more business access points mounted where they're needed, a separate guest network and simple monitoring. It's usually a one-day install, and the difference is immediate.
